Digital editing and training with software

A comparison of experiences

Aims of the 1st workshop:

  • Getting to know each other
  • Familiarize with the working methods of the partners
  • Standardization of transcription methods and rules
  • Standardization of transcription output

Please take the following steps before the workshop:

– Transcribing late medieval and Renaissance resources
HK: Graz way
– micro transliteration (A. Hofmeister-Winter), with importance of the scribe’s characteristics (abbreviations, variant letters, revisions, punctuation, ligatures) and specific sign catalogue. Test on 10%. Very precise annotation of script / paleographic information
– Provide transcription that can be used by other domains (normalized).

– Standardization: Transcription rules
– New transcriptions. Abbreviations expanded, unchanged spellings (excepted u / v, i / j), no added punctuation.
– Capital letters: manuscript use.
– No hyphenation.
– Modern editions
– Colors for expanded abbreviations.
– OCR: proof reading (maybe without checking the manuscript). Retype Viandier, check the quality of the edition.
